Overview
Description
This fine old mansion in Mabou is situated on a 24,500 sq ft (over half an acre) piece of land in the middle of the picturesque and historical village of Mabou. The main house has 4 bedrooms, a bathroom and a powder room, and large principal rooms downstairs. A wing added to the house forms a self contained apartment, currently used as an office. High ceilings, fireplaces in one of the bedrooms and the living room, hardwood floors downstairs, board floors up, and bay windows everywhere give the home its authentic atmosphere of an earlier more elegant period. The heating system is oil-fired hot water via a furnace and oil tank in the basement, and the old-fashioned but much sought-after cast iron radiators throughout the house. The apartment has its own similar heating system. Also in the basement are three breaker panels, one each for house and apartment and one for a generator. The house is serviced by municipal water and sewer. The out-dated solar panel showing in photos is not functional and can be removed. Walking distance to groceries, Credit Union, Red Shoe Pub, the Gaelic College and the quay. A couple of miles to Mabou Harbour and spectacular beaches at West Mabou and the Coal Mines. It’s a 15 minute drive to Inverness and its amenities, 10 to Port Hood, and under 3 hours to Halifax international airport.
